Greenway Layers

An ongoing project to investigate and document the layers of history along the path of the Genesee Valley Greenway.  The path of the Genesee Valley Canal, which in the late 1800’s had its towpath converted to railroad grade, and is currently a walking path.  These various means of transportation, each indicative of a period of time, create a space where past, present, and future collide.  Remnants of the past (connection, commerce, and agrarian communities) linger along the trail, just as the incomplete trail and its volunteer maintenance represent current and future possibilities for community and connection.
